Every week, we receive submissions from writers at every stage of their journey. While there’s no formula for the perfect pitch, there are a few things that consistently make a submission stand out.
Start with a logline
Before anything else, give us a short description or logline — one or two sentences that capture the essence of your work. This helps us understand immediately what we’re looking at and where it might fit in the market.
Send your strongest pages
We ask for the opening chapter, the first ten scenes, or up to three poems. This is your chance to hook us. Don’t worry about polishing every page to perfection — we’re looking for voice, energy, and a sense that you know where the story is going.
Know your category
Charlesworth Literary represents playwrights, screenwriters, novelists, poets, and writers of music-related non-fiction. The more clearly you can position your work within these categories, the easier it is for us to see where you fit.
A note on patience
We read everything that comes in. It takes time. If you don’t hear back immediately, it’s not a no — it’s just that we’re giving your work the attention it deserves.
